The First 2026-hatched Plover reported from the Winter Range!

The first Great Lakes Piping Plover chick to be reported from the winter range is from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, MI. It hatched along Platte Bay near Peterson Rd and was last seen there on July 24th.
Six days later on July 30 it was photographed in St Johns county, FL by Lois Perry who sent her report and wonderful photos to plover@umn.edu. Hoping this young plover has a successful winter and returns north next spring.
